Do you have a loss of energy? Do you feel fatigued and exhausted?
If so, there are a few things you can do today to attempt to alleviate the energy loss you are feeling.
There are several hormones that interact with one another and with your thyroid gland. The adrenal gland, which is situated right above your kidneys, is another important hormone regulating energy levels. This gland produces adrenaline.
Sufficient amounts of protein in your diet are crucial for optimal adrenal functioning. If you are hypothyroid, your protein amounts are even more crucial for adequate adrenal functioning.
An article in the March 4, 2003 edition of Woman's World says that "while avoiding stress & sleeping 8 hours a night are solutions [to low adrenal functioning], there's another step you can take: eat three or four meals daily, and include four to five ounces of protein with each one. Wild ups and downs in blood sugar can be as damaging to the adrenal glands as lack of sleep or stress. Regular protein rich meals can help keep your blood sugar steady, and that alone can improve adrenal function . . researchers say that it can energize you in as little as one month."
Yeast also plays heavily in the fatigue equation. Have you ever had a yeast infection? Too much yeast in the body causes fatigue. If you lose the itching of an infection, that doesn't mean the yeast has entirely cleared up. The yeast can remain & the only real symptom of it being there is extreme fatigue. The same Woman's World article says that yeast "can linger for months, even years, after you've finished taking antibiotics."
To fix this, my OBGYN told me to starve the yeast by eliminating its food source. Unfortunately for me, that's sugar. My OBGYN also told me to eat either yogurt or acidopholus daily. You can get acidopholus at GNC, or any other nutrition center, and it generally comes in strawberry and banana.
Finally - my thyroid doctor gave me a list of vitamins to start taking. The list includes whey protein, a multi pack daily [not just a one-a-day vitamin pill, but a pack of a few vitamins you take once a day], a pill of B12, B6, & folic acid, alpha-lipoic acid, and some digestive enzymes.
The B12, B6, folic acid vitamin I got online at http://www.trivita.com, and it is a sublingual tablet that tastes pretty good, too. Insufficient levels of B in your body can contribute to energy loss & fatigue.
After three weeks of adding these vitamins to my diet and eliminating sugars, I am noticing a drastic increase in energy levels!
